چکیده

Isolation and identification of secondary metabolite compound from chloroform fraction of Usnea longissima and its bioactivity test as an antibacterial had been conducted. The isolation of the chemical compound was performed by using Gravity Column Chromatography (GCC) and ThinLayered Chromatography (TLC). The result showed the needle crystal shaped isolated compound with translucent white color. The 1D-NMR (H and CNMR) data analysis and comparation of the similar data from the isolated compound literature was (5E, 6E) 5-ethylidene-7-formil-6,7-dihydroxy methyl hept-6-enoate. The antibacterial bioactivity test using the method of paper disc diffusion showed that the chloroform extract inhibited the bacterial growth at the concentration of 100 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm and 1000 ppm for E.coli ATCC 35218, S.auerus ATCC 25923 and S. typhi YCTC. The isolated compound obstructed the bacterial growth at the concentration of 100, 250, 500, and 1000 ppm for E. coli, S. Typhy and it was inactive for S.auerus.

Three New Non-reducing Polyketide Synthase Genes from the Lichen-Forming Fungus Usnea longissima

Usnea longissima has a long history of use as a traditional medicine. Several bioactive compounds, primarily belonging to the polyketide family, have been isolated from U. longissima. However, the genes for the biosynthesis of these compounds are yet to be identified. In the present study, three different types of non-reducing polyketide synthases (UlPKS2, UlPKS4, and UlPKS6) were identified fr...

Identification and quantitation of usnic acid from the lichen Usnea species of Anatolia and antimicrobial activity.

Six species of lichens, such as Usnea florida, Usnea barbata, Usnea longissima, Usnea rigida, Usnea hirta and Usnea subflorida, were collected from different areas of Anatolia (district of Antalya, Karabük, Qankiri, Giresun and Trabzon) in Turkey. Their usnic acid amounts in acetone extracts were determined by HPLC. In addition, antimicrobial activities of these extracts were determined against...

Secondary Metabolite Profiling of Species of the Genus Usnea by UHPLC-ESI-OT-MS-MS.

Lichens are symbiotic associations of fungi with microalgae and/or cyanobacteria, which are considered among the slowest growing organisms, with strong tolerance to adverse environmental conditions. There are about 400 genera and 1600 species of lichens and those belonging to the Usnea genus comprise about 360 of these species. Usnea lichens have been used since ancient times as dyes, cosmetics...

Sunscreening fungal pigments influence the vertical gradient of pendulous lichens in boreal forest canopies.

Pendulous lichens dominate canopies of boreal forests, with dark Bryoria species in the upper canopy vs. light Alectoria and Usnea species in lower canopy. These genera offer important ecosystem services such as winter forage for reindeer and caribou. The mechanism behind this niche separation is poorly understood. We tested the hypothesis that species-specific sunscreening fungal pigments prot...
